2024 Round 2 - Super Trofeo - The Bend June Long Weekend
SUPER TROFEO WEEKEND – THE BEND JUNE LONG WEEKEND
Round 2 of our series saw us supporting the Super Trofeo Lamborghini weekend on the long weekend in June. We commenced the weekend with 16 cars which was a fantastic number of varied manufacturers that joined us. Other than heavy fog on the Friday and some light drizzle on one morning, the weather was perfect all weekend.
After such a successful first round, Ross Poulakis unfortunately suffered electrical gremlins causing him to drop down through the field meaning he had to hand over the reins of the title fight…just for now.
Ross’s new team mate made a welcome return with our traveling Englishman Miles Lacey back into the 2nd Praga car.
We must make special mention of returning competitors, Julian Newton (Radical SR10), Ben Cheney (West WX10), Tim Cook (Wolf GB08) and Sam Rasheed (Tatuus FT40), it was awesome to have you all back amongst the APS family.
Tom Hughes stole the keys to his father’s Radical and set very respectable times throughout the weekend but we can’t forget to mention his high speed excursion into the gravel trap near Turn 17 bringing out the safety car.
After literally an 11th hour finish in the Jam workshop (was the paint actually dry?) Scott Borman’s new Wolf F1 Mistral Super(charged) Extreme was on debut and looked and sounded the part upon its first outing. Unfortunately, the car had some teething issues and by Fri afternoon it was parked for the sake of sanity and ensuring no terminal damage would occur.
MAKRIS TAKES ROUND WIN AND TAKES LEAD IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP
After a weekend of ‘dodging and weaving’ BOP, meetings with the MA stewards; and still ironing out gremlins in his Wolf Mistral Extreme, Jason Makris came out on top of the point score for the weekend. After qualifying P6, Makris soon headed to the front where he would stay by finishing in the top 2 across all 3 races.
Makris later said “Winning that final race of the weekend was really special, we had been chasing our tails with set up, I was hit with BOP, I knew I had to bring my ‘A’ game to the final race and pleasingly it actually worked!”
