Drake on top in Friday practice
The 2022 GC Marine Australian Prototypes Series’ season is finally underway, with John-Paul Drake setting the pace on Friday.
The category enjoyed three practice sessions throughout the day, including a final session under lights at Sydney Motorsport Park.
As part of the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships event, Drake topped the time charts in each session, proving his Jam Motorsport prepared Wolf F1 Mistral could be the one to beat this weekend.
Drake edged out Oracle/GC Marine’s Jason Makris in the final two sessions of the day, while APS debutant Ryan Godfrey finished third in each session in his Ready Set Reline Wolf Tornado, showing he was on the pace from the outset.
In the P2 class, Beyond Custom’s Elliott Schutte and Bing Technologies Chris Perini shared the honours of fastest in class for the Radicals, with Schutte quickest in the first and second sessions, while Perini enjoyed the fastest practice two time in the Radicals battle.
In the P1 class, Paul Trengove was the pacesetter of those entered, running old tyres throughout the day, with the West WR1000 pilot hopeful of pushing for an outright podium across the weekend.
Saturday will see the category’s qualifying session take place at 9.40am (AEST), before the opening race rounds out the day at 11.50am. Two races follow on Sunday.
This weekend’s action will be covered across APS social channels, with the category’s third and final race streamed on Stan Sport at 1.40pm (AEST) on Sunday.
